Chapter 25 Upgrade!
Chapter 25 Upgrade!
What's wrong with me?
After lying there for half an hour, Undine felt her body getting hotter and hotter, and even taking off her clothes didn't help.
"Could someone have laced our drink with something?"
Undine was feeling extremely hot and was about to cast a [Purification] spell when the heat reached its peak and then instantly cooled down, leaving her with a warm and comfortable feeling.
She leveled up!
"How did I suddenly level up?"
Undine suddenly sobered up and was startled.
"How did I level up?!"
She last leveled up a month ago. Even if she practiced breathing techniques and trained for 24 hours a day, there was no way she could level up. Spirit level increases are always measured in years.
"The heat hasn't dissipated yet..."
"What exactly is it?"
Undine paced back and forth in her room throughout the night, muttering to herself, until dawn.
The next day, legends of the Night Wanderer spread throughout North City. It was said that at night it would randomly possess an adventurer who didn't sleep, making the adventurer repeat "why" and wander by the window until dawn.
"Good heavens, Undine, who hit your eye?!"
No, I just didn't sleep.
Early in the morning, Undine's dark circles startled everyone, who thought she had been punched twice.
She was so hot all over last night that she couldn't sleep. She leveled up again near morning, and the heat subsided a little. Undine had a feeling that she would probably level up again in the next couple of days.
This upgrade made her both surprised and apprehensive.
What pleased her was the upgrade; a single day's progress was equivalent to several years of cultivation, and she hadn't yet experienced any side effects.
She felt a little weak after taking the legendary elixir of immortality to level up, but this warm current felt like she had actually cultivated for several years.
What's frightening is that this is just too abnormal.
Could I be being targeted by some evil god?
What happened to her was too unbelievable. Undine didn't dare tell her friends, for fear of implicating them. She even thought about finding an excuse to leave today.
"Oliya, let's talk alone."
After much thought, the person who knows the most about the secrets of the North Underground City is undoubtedly Olya, the second daughter of the Ston family. Moreover, she has also experienced being downgraded from the Gold Award, so perhaps Olya knows what happened to her.
Undine invited her into her bedroom.
"Um, Olya, after you won the grand prize, did you feel hot and unable to sleep?"
Undine hesitated, but ultimately didn't directly mention the upgrade, only hinting at it vaguely.
Oliya knew what was going on as soon as she heard it, and she quietly activated her Insight.
[Bio Level: 27]
"Sister Undine, you want to ask about your sudden level up, right?"
"Yes, yes, yes! Do you know what happened?"
When Olya directly asked the question she wanted to ask, Undine's heart jumped into her throat. She gripped the hem of her clothes tightly with both hands, extremely nervous, afraid of hearing some terrifying answer.
"Don't worry."
Oria spoke calmly, stroking the elf's soft hair: "This is the compensation mechanism for the downgraded grand prize. I also upgraded several times in a row over the past few days."
"So that's how it is..."
Undine was relieved, then her expression became quite interesting, going from relief to ecstasy, and finally to fear.
"Doesn't that mean that as long as adventurers deliberately give up the gold prize, they can unconditionally level up several times? Wouldn't this place be able to mass-produce high-level powerhouses in the future?"
"Add to that the enchanted souls of the North Dungeon, and wouldn't this become the most overpowered war reserve in the world?"
Undine shivered. North City was located on the border of the human empire, bordering the Elf Forest and the Dwarf Kingdom.
"Won't war break out here in the future, will it?"
"No, no." Olya continued to stroke the elf's hair, the comfortable feel of which pleased her greatly.
"Adventurers can only experience this compensation once every six months, and they will be unable to level up within six months due to magic saturation."
"Moreover, there should be a limit to the compensation, which I speculate is the highest level that the dungeon can accommodate."
"Besides, North City is in the eastern part of the empire, while the demons' stronghold is in the west. No matter what, our three-way alliance won't fight amongst ourselves. We'll most likely hold a meeting and negotiate to maintain the status quo."
Oliya added in her mind, "Of course, the most important thing is that the boss said that no force can monopolize his dungeon. If they dare to take it over, he will dare to create something even more outrageous."
Whichever faction is then met with a united attack from all under heaven.
"I hope so."
Undine murmured worriedly, her heart still unsettled.
Olya increased the pressure of her caresses and whispered, "If you're really worried, then spread this news far and wide, so there's no chance it will be blocked."
"When all races know how wondrous the North Underground City is, no one will dare to defy the public and occupy it for themselves."
"This method is indeed feasible." After a moment's thought, Undine knew that it was possible.
"But what about your family? Doesn't the Ston family currently control everything in the North Underground City?"
"It's alright. After the Enchanted Soul is released, my brother and father will prepare to leave this place. We will maintain a minimum level of cooperation with the succubus, and we will give up other benefits."
Olya explained, "I have a feeling that no power can lock down the North Underground City, not even the Empire."
"I understand. I will spread the word. I've been an adventurer for twenty years, and I have connections."
Undine looked gratefully at the girl who was less than half her age, blushed, and took the girl's hand off her head, thanking her sincerely.
"Oria, thank goodness you're here, otherwise I would have gone to the Elf Forest to find the Sacred Tree to purify myself, and I would have been locked up in the Elf Forest for decades."
"Hehe, you're welcome. Just tell me more adventure stories."
Olya grinned, thinking she might be a genius for being so easily fooled by Undine into becoming a tool for completing her boss's mission.
Now, her only task is to find that hero.
The succubus told her that Willis had already set off for North City and would arrive as early as tomorrow.
