Chapter 178: The Competition Between Fans and Anti-fans
Chapter 178: The Competition Between Fans and Anti-fans
"No. Director Chenning has a rule. If you’re in his production, minor supporting roles are fine, but the female lead, male lead, female supporting lead, and male supporting lead—those four roles can’t work on other projects simultaneously. You have to stay with the crew the entire time, available whenever you’re called."
Director Chenning is famously fast at filming. He always has A and B units shooting at the same time. The assistant director handles the less important scenes, while he personally takes charge of the major ones. The main actors have a lot of screen time, so they must stay with the production. That’s his rule.
"’I’m someone who follows the rules.’ *Female Police Officer Out of the Gate* is pretty much a female-led drama. The female lead’s role is very extensive and demanding, while the male lead—the villain—actually has less screen time. That’s why Director Chenning needs to find someone skilled in action scenes, to ensure the filming stays on schedule."
"What about your variety show?"
"After the casting is done, it’ll probably be a few more days before I have to join the production. I can still film one more episode of the variety show, but I’ll just skip the fourth one."
"But *Go on an adventure together* is consistently trending. Every episode generates a dozen or so hot topics. Wouldn’t it be a huge waste to quit?"
Riley Perry smiled. "Director Warren changed last week’s episode on the fly. With Holly Summers there, it generated a lot of buzz. Plus, that scam call just happened to come in, which added a lot of heat to the show.
But last week’s theme had nothing to do with adventure.
I’m guessing that for the next episode, Director Warren will definitely take us to an island or a desert to start the real adventure. Viewership is a fickle thing; no one can guarantee the show will stay popular once it gets back on topic."
Joanna said, "Even if the viewership is just on par with the first episode, it’s still a blockbuster show. Some people go their whole lives without landing a gig on a show this good."
"But at the end of the day, I’m an actress. An actress’s main job is to act."
"So you’re saying you’ll quit right after filming the third episode?"
Riley Perry shrugged. "We’ll see. Director Warren has been good to me, so I’d be happy to film a couple more episodes if I can.
Besides, I might not even pass the audition for Director Chenning’s film. If I don’t, we’re just worrying for nothing right now."
"Alright, let’s put this aside for now. Tomorrow, you’re filming *Happy Saturday*. Luckily, the recording is at Dragonspire Television, so don’t be late."
Riley Perry made an OK sign with her hand. "Don’t worry."
"I’ve prepared two gifts for you. Remember to give them to the two hosts so they’ll look out for you a bit more."
Riley Perry said, "...Don’t. If you have gifts, you might as well give them to me. I’m going on a variety show for work. Oh, and I haven’t even gotten paid yet, but I’m supposed to give gifts to other people? Do I look like I have money to burn?"
"I prepared them for you. It wasn’t your money!"
"And your money isn’t money?"
Joanna was about to die from frustration. She never imagined this girl’s stinginess would extend to her!
"Feeling rebellious now that your wings have grown, are we? You won’t even listen to me anymore?"
Riley Perry asked, "What kind of gifts did you prepare, Nana?"
Speaking of which, Joanna’s face filled with pride. "It’s the product endorsed by our company’s award-winning actress. You know, the face masks that are sold by the gram!"
Riley Perry nodded. "Wouldn’t it be better if you just kept them for yourself?"
"You brat, you’re just determined to be difficult, aren’t you?!"
"Alright, alright, I’ll give them the gifts, okay?"
’I appreciate the kind gesture. Isn’t she just afraid someone will give me a hard time?’
’But am I the type to be afraid of a little trouble?’
As she was leaving the company, two high-end gift bags were shoved into Riley Perry’s hands. Sitting in her van, Riley Perry let out a sigh of relief. She could finally go home.
She took out her phone and called a certain someone. He answered so quickly that Riley Perry couldn’t help but suspect he had been waiting by his phone for her call.
"Hello, Sweetie, are you finally done with work?"
Riley Perry chuckled lightly. "Mhm, I just left the office. Where are you now?"
"The office. I’m handling a few things here, but I’ll head home right away."
"Don’t rush. Just focus on your work. I’ll come to your office to find you, and we can eat out tonight."
’Working on a weekend... Success really doesn’t come easy for anyone.’
Eric Sinclair’s eyes curved into a smile, his eyelashes fluttering. "Okay, I’ll wait for you then."
A whole day. He had waited the entire day! He thought he was going to be stood up. Thankfully, the little woman had some conscience after all.
His gloomy mood from the day instantly lifted. Eager to leave work early, he immediately started tackling the files on his desk, his efficiency increasing more than eightfold compared to the past few hours!
On the way to Sinclair Tower, Riley Perry took out her phone to scroll through the trending topics. Sure enough, even with everything else that happened yesterday, the story about Miles Ford being divorced and refusing to pay child support was also trending.
’I find it baffling. Miles Ford is impotent now, so he can’t have children again. Why is he unwilling to pay child support for his own biological daughter? What on earth is he thinking?’
’Mhm, I have several of my own tags on the trending list, like my Great Disappearance Technique and Big Floating Technique, and the one about me outsmarting human traffickers. The official police social media account even posted to thank me!’
She opened her social media account, and what she saw was amazing—her follower count was already over fourteen million!
No wonder Nana didn’t want her to quit the show. This rate of gaining fans was honestly a little scary!
Tapping on the 99+ private messages, she scrolled through them one by one. She even read the messages from haters cursing her out. If their criticisms were reasonable, she would even reply: "Mhm, fair point. Noted."
For the ones who were just being unreasonable, she would block and report them in one smooth motion. To be honest, the haters who actually received a reply from her were stunned.
’She’s a celebrity, for crying out loud. Does she have so much free time that she has to reply to haters’ DMs?’
The hater shared this in their group chat. And then... and then Riley Perry’s fan group exploded. "Check! Have any of our fans gotten a reply from Sweetie?"
"Yes, yes, I got one! I said: Sweetie, you’re so multi-talented. You should take on more roles that showcase your skills. An actor’s work should speak for itself.
Sweetie replied to me: Mhm, you’re right, sweetie. I’m already preparing to take on a new role."
"I got one too! I sent: Sweetie, you’re a genius, I’m so proud of you. She replied: You’re a genius too, otherwise why would you be my fan?"
"Me too, me too..."
The group admin immediately gave an order: "Post these screenshots in the hater groups! Don’t let them think they’re the only ones who get noticed by the queen herself. Hmph! We do too!"
Riley Perry was completely unaware of this competition between her fans and haters. Even if she did know, she’d probably just say, ’Good thing I treat everyone equally.’
’Hehe, I love watching people "fight" over me.’
’If things get heated, I’d even clap my hands and shout, "Fight, fight!"’
’After all, who doesn’t love a bit of gossip!’
’If there’s drama to watch, you watch it. If there isn’t, you create some drama to watch.’
Soon, the van pulled into the underground parking garage of the Sinclair Group. Riley Perry pulled up the hood on her sweatshirt, fished a pair of large sunglasses out of her bag to put on, and after getting out of the car, she went straight to the CEO’s private elevator.
She couldn’t help it. Even though it was the weekend, there were still people working overtime at the Sinclair Group. Plus, now that she had a tiny bit of fame, she had to cover up well to avoid being harassed.
