Chapter 804: Burning
Chapter 804: Burning
Xiao Yue held the teacup and lightly took a sip. Her eyes narrowed with satisfaction at the bittersweet taste.
She also focused on the helicopter assault like the nervous figures around her. The entire operation's success now depended solely on Tang Ziyi's and Ahmin's side.
They were the final nail in the coffin tonight. Kill or capture the government general who was meeting with the ISIS leader to discuss cooperation.
She didn't know why Ling Qingyu and Tang Ziyi concentrated so much antagonism on the poor ISIS leader. They were adamant about uncovering why this man was abnormal.
However, in Xiao Yue's mind, the man was merely more clever and understood how to use appropriate means to achieve his goals.
Such people, once they held great ambitions, were extremely formidable because they could suppress their desires for a long time without revealing obvious signs, proving only that they were content with carving out their own sphere of control.
She had asked the locals around the region, but none of them understood his true goals and simply believed his group to be another terrorist organization wreaking havoc and massacring civilians.
With so many contradictions, Xiao Yue reckoned ISIS itself was not a monolithic entity. Perhaps that was why their behavior appeared inconsistent.
Anyway, tonight she would uncover the hidden mystery and understand why Tang Ziyi and Ling Qingyu believed ISIS was a force formidable enough to alter the landscape, even if only temporarily.
It seemed ISIS had once spread enough terror to frighten the entire world in the previous timeline. However, Xiao Yue found it strange that both Tang Ziyi and Ling Qingyu appeared to share fragments of the same history somehow.
"Order the reserve units to reinforce the center. If everything goes according to plan, in a few days we'll be marching in a victory parade to reclaim your lost lands," Xiao Yue said as she folded her arms.
"Hell yeah. We've been suffocating for the past few months," one of the militia leaders laughed.
"Don't celebrate too soon. We need to ensure everything proceeds perfectly," another warned cautiously.
After all, if everything collapsed because of a single moment of arrogance, they would have nowhere to cry afterward.
Nonetheless, Xiao Yue merely chuckled and shook her head. With her foresight and experience, she already knew the result was inevitable. The wheel of history and the broader trend had already begun turning.
Even if Tang Ziyi's and Ahmin's helicopter assault had not been part of the plan, little would have changed apart from their inability to prevent greater future damage.
Glancing at the location beacon on the screen, Xiao Yue guessed in 5 minutes, the air assault unit would begin the snatch and grab raid.
…
Meanwhile, under the dark sky, several Virgin helicopters stuck close to the ground. Sand blew away as the aircraft stayed low.
Inside the lead one, Tang Ziyi blinked and flipped down the NODs. Her vision turned white phosphorous.
Compared to the green version, the sight was clearer and better, best suited for the current mission.
Using white phosphorous too much also exhausted the eyes. So, it was better suited for short-term combat.
Athena's voice rang through the cabin from the cockpit ahead. "5 minutes!"
Several helicopters followed suit. Apart from the Spirit Fox operators, nobody knew the pilots sitting at the front were projections. The aircraft flew autonomously with perfect precision.
Hearing the countdown, Ahmin also brought the night vision devices to her eyes. Her commandos were equipped with similar advanced quad goggles.
Counting the money spent on just a few dozen soldiers, Ahmin took a deep breath. She tried not to panic and recalled the mission briefing.
The plan was to assault the compound simultaneously with elements from the three helicopters.
Her group with Tang Ziyi would land directly on the open field and breach the main doors. Another group would rappel down and attack from the backyard. They would clear the perimeter and ensure no squirters escaped.
The team would split their manpower and regroup with the first group at the stairs. Ascend and clear the building.
The third would drop directly onto the balcony above the compound and clear from top to bottom. They would also serve as overwatch from above to snipe any threats.
Three groups were involved in the clearance operation. Kill or capture the two VIPs. The rest were expendable.
The other helicopter elements would rappel onto the tallest nearby buildings and contain any threats. An L-shaped lockdown to prevent enemy reinforcements.
In fact, these precautions wouldn't even be necessary if their breaching unit struck fast, hard, and evacuated before the enemy could react.
Ahmin understood the emergency precautions and protocols meant to ensure perfection. And she felt extremely confident given that nearly half the manpower in this mission belonged to GSS.
She had observed the results of the accelerated, intensive, devilish training over the past days. Her subordinates had improved far beyond what the Green Berets had taught them.
Not to mention, GSS spent lavishly on every resource needed. Honestly, her heart ached at the sight of so much money slipping away. The amount was enough to fight two small wars.
Suddenly, Ahmin shivered as both side doors slid open. Wind rushed in and the smell of the desert drove away any distracting thoughts.
Tang Ziyi patted Ahmin and signaled one finger — one minute.
She also reminded the nearby soldiers. Everyone repeated the gesture. The commandoes were thrilled and biting their lips.
Eager and excited to test their improved skills. In contrast, the Spirit Fox operators noted their behavior and smiled.
They were too used to operations, training, and real battlefields. Plus, they trusted the equipment produced by the boss. Long live President Ling Qingyu.
As the machine descended, Ahmin saw four more helicopters flying in the distance, circling nonstop to provide support fire to the ground units should the need arise.
They were attack helicopters. Ahmin thought it was overkill.
Tang Ziyi fixed her hand above the rail to stabilize herself when Virgin 1 slowed down. She switched on the infrared laser and circled it at the main gate.
Through the white phosphorous night vision, everyone saw Tang Ziyi's gesture and understood where they had to head.
Virgin 1 landed hard, bouncing slightly. Tang Ziyi jumped out first, followed by Ahmin.
Everyone in the team lined up and advanced rapidly toward the gate, apart from two women covering the rear.
Virgin 1 lifted off as soon as everyone was clear and gained altitude.
At the front of the formation, Tang Ziyi saw rappelling figures descending above the compound while another group breached the backyard from a helicopter farther away.
Compared to their immediate dismount, the other two groups took longer.
Ahmin and Tang Ziyi formed up near the wall on the same side of the gate. The latter tapped her helmet and gestured toward the Spirit Fox operator opposite them.
The operator took out a slap charge, quickly scanned the frame, and stuck it onto the door. She pulled the string, and a soft pop sounded.
"Burning!" she declared.
Both pointwomen—she and Tang Ziyi—stepped backward and turned their heads away.
Boom!
Agonizing metal groaned as the gate slowly swung inward from the blast. Tang Ziyi and the breacher pushed in and entered.
Shouts erupted. No need to guess what they meant—they're here, and what now?
Puff! Puff!
Two standing armed men were shot in the head. The team flowed in and covered every angle. Tang Ziyi and Ahmin headed toward the entrance.
Puff! Puff!
Muffled gunshots rang from their flanks as the group eliminated the armed perimeter guards.
Boom! Boom!
Fireballs erupted behind the operators' line of sight. The Virgin 2 attack variants were eliminating larger threats like vehicles with missiles.
Tang Ziyi stood at the door waiting for the ready signal. Ahmin squeezed her arm and responded. Go.
Tang Ziyi kicked the door open, slamming it inward, and took the lead. Ahmin's lips twitched at the sheer level of destruction as she followed in.
The first group had made entry.
